The Lennox International Young Artists Competition is one of the finest opportunities for talented piano and string musicians between the ages of 13 and 19 to compete for the chance to perform with a major orchestra. Held in January of each year, the Lennox Competition is limited to 20 semi-finalists in each of the string and piano divisions selected based on audition tapes/CDs. The 20 semi-finalists compete for a top prize of $2,500 (with other cash prizes for the second and third place winners) as well as the opportunity to perform their concerto with the RSO during a March subscription series concert conducted by music director Anshel Brusilow.

The 2008 competition was held on January 5th at the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson, TX. The distinguished judges for the competition were Paul Schenly, Reinberger Chair in Piano, Head of the Piano Department at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Elizabeth Pitcairn, Adjunct Associate Professor of String/Harp, USC Thornton School of Music.
